Paul Jackson

Recently I have wondered why abstraction feels right for decoration on my pots. 'It just does' seems weak. Maybe geometry, balance, counterbalance, even out-of-balance lifts my soul. Like hearing jazz or placing objects in an exhibition.

Though this is not enough. Incidental marks and layers of colour have their own rhythm and magic which may not be obvious until the pot has been fired. To say nothing of the heat and the firing’s own magic.

The volume of the container is equally important because it is the vehicle for these components and seduces me into endless time in the studio .

I hope my ceramics reveal some of this, and that the pots are enjoyed because they do.
