Peter Morrell

Having been struck blind at the start of 2015 has caused me to re-jig my thoughts and procedures on painting and relevance. The third dimension now much reduced with colour lost and becoming tonalities. I see all around me through a white fog and objects looming towards me. My paintings now are made from my existential challenge. My work has always been an enquiry about painting and seeing, so this continues from, as it were, the other side of the wall.

I believe these works allude to all normal sighted painting. There is also an equivalence of some kind to music in my mind.

My greatest problem is the craft and procedure in the making. Delight in colour is reduced to the necessary use of high contrast. Choice of paint colour and mixing often results in getting myself, rather than the canvas, covered in paint.
